Learning Log 7
After three months of practices and dedication for
the Romeo and Juliet play, it is finally over! I was
in the same group as Angeline, Ling Shan, Dorcas,
P.Xin Yi, Wei Tieng, Melvin, Akmal, Benjamin and
Sheng Bo.

On the 15th of September, I became the audience
for 2Commitment and 2Respectin the AVA room.
After watching 2 groups from Commitment and 1
group from Respect, I could tell that they put a lot
of effort especially 2Commitment. Each of their
groups have different themes and had made me
attracted to their play. I could tell they were very
serious and could tell they had practice a lot for
the play. I had lerant great team sprit in them and
it was a play that could not be mistaken.

For this play, I was in charge of the music as there
are four different kind of music that is needed to
be played at different time of the play. It was
pretty hard at first as the volume is needed to adjust
at different volume at different time of the play.

I was very nervous during the play, as it has to be
perfect as this will effect our whole team score for the
end year. But I soon regretted what I thought as I
was so nervous during the play that I actually forget
to play the music correctly. Members from my group
who seldom makes mistakes forgot their lines. But I
think the play is only possible with the team work
we have as a group. I really hope to work together
again soon in the future.

I really hope my junior could expirence it play I
assure them that it would fun and memorable.
This play helps you to be bond with your classmates
more and this also somehow give you a sense of
responsibilty you have the the group. I grantee that
this would be a great exposure to them.

I really hope we could work as a group again in
the future. This play has also let me know about
the classmates that I seldom talk to but I have
somehow made good friends and had know more
about them. This play could not be possible without
them!

Learning Log 6

In secondary 1, I have learnt about the basic literary
devices such as simile, metaphors and so on. At first I
thought that learning these is only helps during exams.
But, as time goes by, I found out that these could be
easily found in our daily lives.

Similes are the comparison between two different
subjects indicated by the use of 'as' or 'like'. For
example 'as busy as a bee' and 'hardworking like
a bee'.It means the hardworking nature of the the
bee describes as busy.Metaphors applies the
qualities of an object applied to another.
For example,'the teacher thundered at the class'.
Moving on to personification, it is the attribution
of human beings to inanimate objects. For example,
'the wind whispered into my ears'.It shows the
wind, like a human, could whisper.Symbols
is an object will stand for something else,
usually something more abstract.For example,
'a lion symbolises bravery' and 'a rose symbolises
love'.while for visual, auditory, olfactory,
kinesthetic and tactile and descriptions that
involves our five senses.

I have also learnt about sound devices.Rhyme means
the similarity of ending sounds existing between
two words.Rhythm is the beat or pattern of stresses
as you read a passage or poem.Alliteration is the
repetition of initial consonant sounds that they describe.
Onomatopeoia is the formation of word, which echo
the sounds that they describe. Tone refers to the oral
expression of mood , attitude or point of view.

I have also learnt about diction and sentence structure,
these are a more advance level of literary devices.Connotation
, oxymoron, hyperbole, paradox, simple sentence,
complex sentence, incomplete sentences, exclamatioon,
rhetorial question and repetition.

I find it very hard to remember all the different types of literary
devices but hopes to remember them as they not only
help in exams but it also helps in correcting our grammar
error.

Learning Log 5

I have learnt that an unseen poem or prose passage
is one that I might not have read before.I had also learnt
that I need to read at least twice in order to get a rough
idea of the poem.Reading it for the first time non stop
helps to get the idea of the poem while reading for the
second time helps in better understanding or any
prose or poem, the characters and how are they related.
Taking down notes at the side also helps to get a better
understanding of what happen and the emotions
express by the characters.

I also learnt that reading the question carefully helps
in answering the questions. Underlining of the keypoints
helps too.When answering the questions, it would be
best to write in your own as much as possible.It would
help to express the feeling you want to express clearer.
Guide one is to never rush through the poem as it might
cause some difficulties in understanding the poem and
answering them.Refrain from using long quotes as it
might be harder to explain.

I also learnt that we should plan our answer by using
PEEL (Point-What do you want to say? Explain Elaborate-
Why did you say that? Edvidence Example-What is it
in the text that makes you say that? Link- How is this
connected the the point you have given?)

I also learnt how to quote sentences. It should be
kept short for better understanding.By using the
PEEL principle, you should be able to have
some evidence the support the answer.You also
need to make conclusions.I learnt that there are
two kinds of irony.Situational irony and verbal irony.
It could help in creating humour etc.

I have also learnt about the ABC's in quoting are
Attention, Brief and Context. Attention-they are
usually the ones you pick for further explaination.
Brief-Keep the quotation as short as possible.
Context-contextualise our edvidence.

In conclusion, the notes given by the teacher are
useful for me to understand.

Learning Log 4

On the day of 18 April 2011, our class had
finally had our first ever Shakespeare play.
We performed in the AVA room excluding
the groups who had members participating
in the Singapore Youth Festival. My groups
consist of two other classmates, Kae Chuan
and Wen Jing. For the props such as the
cat and the frog was prepared by Wen Jing.

Before the presentation, the class prepared
for the performance. And I had to admit,
they have put in quite an amount of effort
which I was glad after seeing 2Commitment
very well prepared when they performed.
The make-up my friends had put on were
simply creepy. With eye-shadow, and
putting on fake and long fingernails, for a
second, they looked like real witches.
Powerpoint slides with sound effects were
also created.

The performance done by peers were
rather funny but some actually had scary
atmosphere, making them such a wonderful
performance. In the dark, seeing them
putting powder on their hair and painted faces,
simply described 'creepy'. Dorcus's group
even brought fake long noses and ears.

When it was finally my group's turn, I
was so nervous that I even forgot how
to speak like a witch and ended up
mumbling my lines. All I could do
was to stare down to overcome my
nervousness. But when all was done, I
simply heaved a sigh of relief.

Two day after, the groups that had not
yet perform spent the whole period
of recess to prepare and soon
ended ourselves in the AVA room.
Unfortunately, there was some technical
issues and about 15 minutes were wasted.
But the performance were great.Kareem's
group was pretty funny with the slide
going fast but overall I think his group
had done rather a good job.

I also noticed that quite a number of
peers could not portray the voice of
the witches. They practiced but with
the nervousness, it could not be helped.
But some peers like Akmal portray
it very well.

Overall, I find this play is very benificial
for us. It was educational and also a
fun experience for me and I hope I could
improve on my projection of voice of the
end-of-year Romeo and Juliet play.I have
also learned that mimicking the voices
of the witches need practice but most of
all courage.

Learning Log 3

It's going to be the end of our first term.
Time had Passed so quickly this year. The
past few weeks, the class have been
studying even more about Shakespeare,
to be exact, "Macbeth".

The first lesson, I was absent from school
but I had heard from my friends that Mrs Woo
had use her number selector to select the groups
for the act we will be doing soon about
the Three Witches. I personally think the idea
was pretty fair as there will not be always having
the same members but also random making
it more time to get to know other classmates and
also have the excitement seeing who will
be your group member without knowing. Too
bad I missed that lesson but I was lucky to
be in the same group as my friend.

The class also had discuss about the comic grid
based on Act 1 Scene 2. Be it 5, 6, 7 panels, up
to you. The drawing would be hard for me as
I am not so good in it. But I look forward to
my classmate's creative and funny drawing
if I get the chance.

The teacher had also taught the class to have
a better understanding of Act1 Scene 2. The
plot that teacher explains makes it very easy
to understand although my English Language
is not so good. It hard to read and understand
at first as I personally find the way they speak
intriguing, often using complex terms to describe
or else easily said. Overall the lesson was
enjoyable and educational. Recently, I had
bought a book based on 'Macbeth'. This book
provides all information from the author to
hoe to answer and understand the text. But I
find the teacher's explaination is so much easier.

Overall, I had missed a couple of lessons, but the
lessons I attended was fun,interesting and educational
but I really hope there will be no more drawing
for literature this year. Mrs Woo explaination was
so easy to understand. I actually really hope to catch
with my homeworks and classmates learning.I also hope
to be able to submit my assignments on time in the future.

Learning Log 2

This is already the seventh
week of school but had missed
some literature lessons due to many
reasons such as me being absent,
celebration of O level results,Chinese
New Year and Mrs Woo absent.As
you can see our class missed quite a lot
and the class is way back the other class
such as the learning log ,other classes
is already doing learning log 3.
Add on that, the class has no sense
of urgency and are wasting precious
time for literature.I can feel that
this year's class is so different from
last's year.But during the past weeks,
except for the class's not cooperating,
the lessons are interesting
as I had learn more about the play
'macbeth' and different kind of
superstitions.

For Macbeth, I have a better understanding
of Act 1 Scene 1 as the teacher had tried
acting out the different voices for the
witches and it was very funny.The class
later tried acting out too but I was absent
from school so I had missed the opportunity
to see my other classmates in action. The
class had also do on a assignment on the
witches by drawing out the 3 different
witches.As I am not so good in art, I had
difficulties drawing them and also
had to have some examples from the net.
But overall, I had fun drawing them as
they were funny.

As for the superstitions, I personally
find this lesson very educational as
I do not normally have interest in them.
But for this lessons I find them interesting
as some of them were very funny.The
class also had a group discussion about
it plus a presentation from the different
groups.The group work was fun and also
help me to get to know more about the class.

I hope to catch up with the other classes
soon as Common test is coming up. I
also hope that I do not have any
difficulties in Macbeth's Act 1 Scene
2for the Common test as my Engish is
not that good, I have some difficulties
in understanding the passage.
I personally still find this year lessons
are more interesting than last year but
have space for improvement some
as the class the class cooperation. I cannot
do anything as I am still not familiar
with them.I hope the lessons will get
better in the upcoming lessons.

Learning Log 1

This is already the third week of school
and had some really interesting literature
lessons.During the past week,I've learn
more about William Shakesphere,
his plays and how to write Cinquain.

In the past,I knew about William Shakesphere
only for his famous play, Romeo and Juliet,
but I did not know who exactly is he and
what are his plays.But after knowing him
through literature,I began to be more curious
about him and went home to do research
about him to have a better understanding about
him and his wonderful plays he had created in his lifetime.

As for Cinquain, to be honest, I find it interesting
and so easy as it does not need to rhyme.
Most of my friends find them a little hard
as it requires some thinking skills and creativity.
I personally thinks that the word 'Cinquain' is
a very suited name because the name itself made
me get curious about it and done research on the
net.I myself will do more personal exercise about
Cinquain to improve on it.

I personally like the literature lessons better this
year as it is so much interesting than last year.
It is so interesting that made me crave for more
literature lessons make me look forward to the
future literature and hope them to be as good.

I personally feel that there is no need for
improvement YET because I only had several
literature lessons and I am not to sure what
to comment or suggest.Maybe the next learning
log be able to share after I get to know both
classmates and the lessons better.As I come
from 1Commitment last year and had transferred
to this new class, I have more unknown classmates
and I am trying to fit in to the class and to know
them better first.

This class is quieter than my previous class which
is more lively and more noisy or basically the most
noisy class in the level. Personally I am also a quiet
person, so I suggest some games and more group work.

I personally think that the way you teach is fun
and make the class a bit more lively, which I
think it is a better environment to study and to
concentrate as we will not get sleepy and get
a better understanding of the lesson.

heyy...first week of school is finally over and
i am already died tired...i pretty like my chem cher
cause i understand more and finding them

friday npcc was fun although bring full-uniform
but didn't wear...very heavy sia...
Bad news had happened...my hamster had died...
and i already am missing him...
went to commitment class for chinese...
and he is not in...sigh...but i think it is a good thing
and a bad thing...good thing is that i can be more focus
on my studies...bad thing is that i guess i can only see
him during recess...

First day of school finally start...
Wen Jing had transfered to my class...
and is sitting beside my in class...
so happy...form cher...hmmm??
her first impression for me is good but

pic is not as nice as others but think can
live with it...
after school, went to Causeway Point to meet

So heyys...
totally boring...
went to watch Narnia yesterday at the cinema
at log1...guess what...saw Elisa,Vanessa and Hanisah
there too...shock!!i thought they would be in woodlands
area...the show was nice but brother spoiled the fun by going to the toliet
4 times during the show...just great!?! worse of all...there were 3 boyys
making the hell out of noise!! then they run out of the cinema in the middle of the show
okayy...so then bro and i went to popular...wanted to buy storybooks but
they were damn expensive...so went to the languages area and chose some
japanese and korea dictionary...wanting to learn them for a long time...
knew some...but not good enough
okayy...so thats basically it...
tomorrow i am going to watch my 3rd movie this holiday...

heard it was quite interesting...
but lets see tomorrow...
holiday is going to end soon...

Heyy...hi guys...
staying at home all day is totally boring
play com, watch tv...
now watching anime...Kimi Ni Todoke
sort of interesting... but also not that fantastic
watching...i think half way already...

Shocking news have came from WWE
1) John Cena got fired from WWE
2)among the NXT rookies, i one that
i asume the most suitable DIVA..-A.J
got eliminated...
3)The 'awsome' miz is now the WWE
champion...
I still think the nexus of RAW should be
banish from WWE...and good speech by
John Cena farewell speech...i totally agree
that Wade Barrett should stop taking shortcuts.
Although u r fired, but i believe that you will
always stay in the heart of your fans...

On 25th of nov...the result of the PSLE is out...
this year top t-score is 282...congratzz
as for my pri school...265...not bad
Those who've decent scores, your hard work paid off
Whether you r contented or dissappointed...

the t-score matters but not thattt much...
you r all going to your new sec life
chose a school carefully...the one that is suitable

Heyy...miss me...haha i guess not.
didn't sleep last night till this morning about
9am...watching cinderella's stepsister
and now snow flower
quite interesting with nice plot...

went to watch Harry Potter the movie
season 7 part one and already last
2hour 30mins...started at 8.30pm till
about 11pm...at Causeway Point...

Hiiii...
today's day was sort of terrible...
it started out that i was late 4 lesson...
then after maths class...on matter where
i go, i would see my enemy in front of me...
haiz...wasting all my time avioding that person...
then later walked to CWP and saw Cheryl n took
MRT back to Yew Tee to meet my mum
and of course home sweet home...
but then while using the computer, it suddenly
go hay-wire!! So mad having a bad day...
2morrow still have maths lesson...
8-9 maths
9.15-10.15 chinese
10.30-11.30 maths
will kill people lor...somemore class so boring...
haiya...today is totally lack lor!!
i totally wish that my next year maths cher is
Ms Tan lor...not because i like her but beacause
she is basically a very hard working teacher...
although her lessons are boring...but they give the
basic needs to understand the topic and make it so
much easier to revise or study...
To be exact i wish all my cher would be the same
but i know it is sort of the impossible...but i wish maths cher is...
haiz...this holiday totally sucks...nothing to do...
and no CCA...
